I was commissioned to illustrate the book cover for "Oídos sordos" (Deaf ears) by Carlos Díaz Güell. The book is a selection of the more than one thousand articles that this author has written for the digital magazine "Tendencias del dinero" (Money's trends) about the economic crisis.

The main theme was of course, the economic crisis, therefore I developed two different illustrations. 

A mainly digital image of a paper boat (made with a 50 euro bill):

And a political caricature, keeping the same idea about the drowning boat but a bit more cunning; by showing  Merkel, Rajoy and Zapatero.

I tried this image with an overall reduction in color, to make the paper boat show off.

We tried different background colors for a while, and tested them with both designs:

And finally went on with the red backround and the image of the paper boat. The author finally decided on this image to make the book's character a bit more serious.
